No, New York State Does Not Require Short Adults To Use Booster Seats

Due to the fact that the world seems to get weirder every single day, when something odd or strange appears in the news or on social media, it's not unusual for people to just believe what they heard or read. However, in the current times that we live in, you should never take something at face value, especially considering how easy it is to create all sorts of deepfakes and fake news.

But it is totally normal for you to hear about something and be like, 'Oh, that sounds weird.'

We've had our share of weird news that turned out to be totally true, like the runaway cow that was trotting down the New York State Thruway or the half-naked woman who attacked a city cop because she couldn't get into the park. But once in a while, a piece of weird news comes along, and it's totally fake (maybe).

Internet Meme Says Adults Need Booster Seats While Driving In New York State

While surfing the internets, I came across a meme that was pretty funny, but I knew instantly it wasn't true. However, since we live in the great New York State, which loves to ban all sorts of things, I had to look into it.

According to the meme, effective August 1, 2026, any adult who is less than five-foot-four is now required to use a booster seat when inside a motor vehicle in the Empire State. After a quick review of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law, it's easy to find out this isn't true and someone is just pulling our leg.

But, considering that New York State has either banned or tried to ban leaf blowers and snow blowers, certain foods, street vendors, plastic bags, pitbulls, candles inside pumpkins, food takeout containers, baby walkers, Coal, firepits, Hookah lounges, toy guns, just about all legal guns, and countless other things... a booster seat may not be that far-fetched.
