No, New York State Is Not Banning Tattoos
If you haven't figured it out by now, social media is extremely powerful. News, videos, and more to spread around the world as the speed of now is something that we sometimes forget. It's easy to forget that, but it's truly something that we need to make sure we keep in mind as we go about our daily lives.
While the powers of the internet and social media have done a lot of good for our culture and society, you can't let the fact that it can equally be used for bad, and as Mark Twain once said: A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes.
Something like that has been going viral lately, thanks to a post on social media about a new fake law that said New York is banning something that many people love: tattoos.
The Empire State Is Not Banning Tattoos
The last few days have seen a fake New York State law spreading across just about every social media site. According to the social media posts, a fake law was passed in 2024, New York State Senate Bill 1126, that would ban tattoos in 2028.
However, a quick Google search would show you that no law exists, and these social media posts are fake news. But the truth hardly matters to people who read rumors on the internets.
The posts have gone so viral that members of the New York State Legislature have had to make their own posts on social media, reminding people this is fake.
All laws that have been passed and those that are being debated can be found on the New York State Legislature website, including the real Senate Bill 1126, which has nothing to do with tattoos.
While there are plenty of things that New York has banned and should ban, tattoos are not one of them.
