In today’s modern society, hearing about and watching viral news is an almost everyday occurrence. Whether it's something that's trending on social media or odd updates coming from our local radio and TV stations, just about no matter how weird or odd something seems, it might not seem all that unusual.

For example, take the story about the half-naked woman who attacked a Buffalo Police Officer cause she couldn’t get her car inside of a local park, and, of course, who can forget the infamous ice car that was frozen along Lake Erie in Hamburg this past winter. Given these and other examples, when you hear weird news like a deer getting trapped at Buffalo General Hospital or a wild cow getting loose and shutting down the New York State Thruway, you might not even bat an eye.

However, this one story I saw had me do a double-take, and I even said, 'nah this can't be true.'

A Buffalo Woman Really Did Not Ride Her Kayak In The Mall Fountain

There is a story that has been floating around the internets about a Buffalo woman who was accused of dressing up as a pirate, including an eye patch, getting in a kayak, and shouting orders to people while paddling in the mall water fountain.

According to the story on social media and Google, this story is being reported by WXYZ News.

There are, of course, a few problems with this story.

  • WXYZ Channel 7 News is a Detroit TV station that has no record of this story,
  • Buffalo does not have any malls left with a big enough water fountain for a kayak,
  • And, while this does sound like something someone from Cheektowaga would try to do, this same meme has floated around the internet for a few years.

There are tons of crazy things that happen all around Buffalo, so I guess it's a good thing that nothing this crazy has happened... yet.
