Upstate New York Man Killed While Trying To Get Rid Of A Skunk
Having a skunk in your yard can be unnerving for anyone. Imagine trying to kill a wild pest in your yard, and then you end up being shot instead. That’s exactly what happened to a man in the Town of Taylor, and he did not survive his injuries.
According to Fox 5, on Friday a local man was out with a companion trying to kill a pesky skunk that was in his yard. In the process, the poor man ended up injured and eventually dying from his injuries..
New York State Police responded to a home on Jipson Hill Road in Cortland County just before 9 p.m. on Friday. When they got there, 58-year old James R. Parker, Jr. was receiving medical attention from the Cincinnatus Ambulance Company and MAVAC.
Law enforcement officers with the New York State believe that Mr. Parker was accidentally struck by a crossbow while trying to kill a skunk in his yard.
Police have not identified the man who accidentally shot his companion. The unidentified man dialed 911 for the victim, and rendered first aid until emergency personnel arrived at the scene. Mr. Parker was rushed to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday. Police officials say that the incident is still being investigated.
I’m sure that Mr. Parker and his unidentified friend had no idea that hunting a skunk would cause such pain and anguish for both families. This is just another reminder of the dangers that come along with any type of weapon, even a crossbow.
