More Activities Added To Buffalo’s 5/14 Remembrance Weekend
People from all over America are expected to travel to Buffalo in order honor the lives that were lost and impacted during the mass shooting that occurred in Buffalo 1 year ago.
The 5/14 Remembrance Weekend is set to go from Friday, May 12, 2023, through Sunday, May 14, 2023, and will be filled with several events and activities to help us focus on reflection, healing, and hope in the aftermath of that terrible act of domestic terrorism.
On Saturday, May 13, 2023, there is going to be a Community Gathering for Reflection, Healing, and Hope that will take place at the Johnnie B Wiley Amateur Athletic Sports Pavilion on Jefferson Ave., and more events and activities have been added to the schedule.
Those activities include:
- STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Match) Activities like:
- Buffalo Urban League's FIRST LEGO League,
- M&T Bank's Exploring Tech & Inspiring Hope Table,
- Including a Marshmallow Challenge featuring teams competing to build the highest tower out of spaghetti and marshmallows,
- Paper Airplane flight challenge,
- Binary Code Bracelet Building using use binary code to create beaded bracelets with coded messages such as Peace, Love, Hope, and more,
- and a robot coding demonstration.
- The University at Buffalo, Department of Computer Science & Engineering: Success STEMS from Exploration with a Yubee robot demo, flying drones, self-driving cars, and more.
There will also be several Art Activities featuring the AKG Buffalo Museum, Buffalo State University, and The Burchfield Penny Art Center
In addition to those activities, there will be food and refreshments available from the African Heritage Food Co-op, Delaware North, Manna at Northland, and more.
Entertainment on the Main Stage will feature music and spoken word from Karen Saxon & Will Holton, the African American Cultural Center Drumming and Dance Troupe, Brian Freeman, Buffalo United Community Choir, Drea D’Nur, George Brown & God’s Purchase, Jada Spight, Jaman Dunn, Latosha Jennings, Malcolm F. Wilson & Joshua's Generation, Marcus Lolo, Matthew Wilson, Moe Badger & Bethesda World Harvest Church Praise Team, Paris Glen, Buffalo's Poet Laureate Jillian Hanesworth, and several students from the Buffalo Public Schools.
All of these events are designed to help the people of Buffalo focus on reflection, healing, and hope.
