The world lost one of its greatest voices last week when Dr. Maya Angelou made her transition to be with the ancestors. Here is the statement that her family released this week:

“Dr. Maya Angelou passed quietly in her home before 8:00 a.m. EST. Her family is extremely grateful that her ascension was not belabored by a loss of acuity or comprehension. She lived a life as a teacher, activist, artist and human being. She was a warrior for equality, tolerance and peace. The family is extremely appreciative of the time we had with her and we know that she is looking down upon us with love.”

A woman known for her elegance of words in flowing poetry and the way that she touched the hearts, minds, and souls of many is drawing protests from an organization known for showing up at funerals with signs that spew hate toward the deceased.

Now the Westboro Baptist Church has tweeted to members of its flock to try and get information on the funeral arrangements for Dr. Maya Angelou.
