How ironic is it that I've never heard of or about Navy Mess Attendant 2nd Class Doris Miller? Upon looking for a picture of him that I could use for this post, I was only able to find one picture of this Navy hero.  That fact says a lot about how Black History is handled in this country.

Doris Miller is possibly World War II's, Pearl Harbor's, and the Navy's most celebrated war hero, but he is also virtually the country's least well-known hero.

What happened today may have changed all of that. Doris Miller was recognized for his heroism by having a Navy ship being named after him ... the USS Doris Miller (CVN 81).
