This New Law Will Allow Barbers To Make More Money
Buffalo has many great barbers and barbershops, believe it or not, for a long time, I didn't know that you actually needed to go to school or training to get a license to cut hair legally in New York State. Remember back in the days when your friend or your neighborhood barber would cut your hair for 5 bucks? Now, Barbershops all around Western New York have stepped up their game with better equipment and most have even improved the overall customer experience.
Although barber's busiest times are typically on a Friday or Saturday, most of them usually work on appointments and cut hair 4 and 5 days a week, but did you know that it was a law that didn't allow barbers to open on Sunday's? According to WIVB, this law is rarely enforced, but it has been on the books for a long time. The law prohibits the "practice of barbering" on Sundays. Governor Andrew Cuomo recently signed legislation that repealed provisions of the law.
Although this may seem like a step that doesn't really matter, I'm sure there are barbershop owners out there that followed this law, and maybe didn't open their business for that reason. Now owners can open on Sundays and not have to worry about the possibility of being served with a misdemeanor. This is also good for many customers that work during the week and the only day that they have to get their grooming needs done is on Sundays. I'll start paying attention to the number of shops that will legally take advantage of this legislation.
