The global pandemic is already enough to deal with along with gun violence and other issues that many Buffalo residents are faced with every day. We are now at the height of an opioid epidemic in Erie County. According to buffalonews.com, when over three hundred people died from fatal drug overdoses in Eire County, heroin laced with fentanyl was the main cause behind the increase in deaths. This is a cheap but extremely powerful opioid, which makes it very popular, especially in low-income neighborhoods.

Fentanyl is such a big problem and it continues to kill people every day. The drug is not only found laced in cocaine, it is in almost everything, like fake pills that are sold on the illicit market.

Fentanly is in everything, Toxicology tests showed that nearly everybody who died from drug overdoses in 2020, had cocaine laced with fentanyl in their system, and the trend has continued this year.

said, Cherlly Moore Erie County Health Department's medical care administrator.

The fatal overdose numbers were up in the U.S in 2020, roughly 93,000 people died from drug overdoses, which is up around 30% in previous years. There are many people that are confused about what they are taking, some people think that fentanyl is a stimulant when it is actually a depressant, and it only takes tiny amounts of it to cause an overdose.
