Some Erie County Parks Will Be Getting Massive Makeovers
A popular destination for many people in Buffalo is on the list of parks that will be getting a new park with new equipment. Como Park is a well-known place to many here in Western New York. I have been there as DJ for family reunions and company parties.
According to buffalonews.com, $2.1 million have been earmarked for exclusive playgrounds at Erie County parks. The upgrades will include new special accommodations for people and children with disabilities or physical challenges. Money has been unanimously approved by the Erie County Legislator for 5 parks, Como Lake, Emery, Akron Falls, and Ellicott Creek Park.
Each park will receive $450.000 to buy and install the new playground structures. One of the nice things that I know many parents of children with disabilities will love to see is a 200-foot-long sensory walk along a concrete path. The price tag for this is about $100.000 which is also planned as part of the overall project.
There is a need for playgrounds to accommodate children of all abilities. kids shouldn't be separated based on their level of ability, and parents shouldn't have to travel far to access space for exclusive play. I'm proud to have reached an agreement to make this happen, and I'm looking forward to getting things underway soon as possible
said Majority Leader Joseph Lorigo.
As a parent of a child with special needs, I can understand why some parents would like a place for their children that is not as active as other children or may not have the same skill level.
