This Memorial Day Weekend 2014, the radio industry lost a great man. Urban Programming Director KJ Holiday suddenly died on Sunday morning. This is my personal tribute to my former boss who got me the job here in Buffalo!

On Saturday, KJ did something he hadn't did in many many years -- hosted and DJ'd live on the radio! As part of WJLB's "Mixin Impossible Weekend" KJ told Spin Docta Kim James to let him hold down a couple hours! And so he did. And KJ rocked it!!

KJ Holiday was a devoted father, brother, friend and mogul in the radio industry. He had a real passion for music and had an ear for on-air talent! He gave me my first big break on Clear Channel Detroit radio station FM98 WJLB in 2008.
I served under his direction for four years as a Radio Personality on WJLB and Mix 92.3 until KJ referred me to WBLK Program Director Chris Reynolds in 2012 to be the new voice of the Queen City. KJ always encouraged on-air talent such as myself to try new things. In addition to hosting my own show, KJ had me reporting traffic on the Coco Foolish & MR Chase morning show and reporting news on WMXD's Steve Harvey Morning Show.

He also gave me the opportunity to host my first live-to-air broadcasts at local clubs and the long-running charity event "Coats for Kids". He was the first to believe that I was "Full-Time Talent" even though I only worked part-time. His contagious smile and positive attitude lit up every room he walked in!
So when I got the news that he passed out at the gym after an intense kickboxing workout and his son found him unconscious...I was and still am STUNNED!!
The next morning this poem came to me.
