As the calendar inches closer to the official start of summer, Memorial Day Weekend often signifies the unofficial start of summer in places all over America, including Buffalo.

However, before we get started with all of our grilling and chilling, we must remember the reason for the season and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for all of the freedoms we enjoy in the United States of America.

What is Memorial Day, and Why Do We Celebrate it

According to the United States Government Publishing Office (GPO), a Federal agency in the legislative branch, Memorial Day is a Federal Holiday that commemorates the women and men who have died while in military service. It is celebrated on the last Monday in May as designated by Federal law (36 U.S.C. 116).
