Town Rundown: Free MWBE Certification Workshops at Roswell Park
If you’re a business owner, you already know that having a great business is only part of the equation. You also have to know about the resources, certifications, and opportunities that can help position your business for growth. That’s why this one caught my attention for the Town Rundown.
Geraldine Ford is facilitating a brand-new opportunity for minority- and women-owned businesses throughout Western New York. Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Office of Employee Advocacy and Fairness is sponsoring a FREE New York State Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprise (MWBE) Certification Workshop Series.
And yes, I said FREE!

The four-week program is designed to help business owners navigate the NYS MWBE certification process from beginning to end. Geraldine will walk participants through eligibility requirements, the application process and what they need to do to work toward submitting a completed application.
For entrepreneurs who have looked at the certification process and thought, Where do I even start? this is an opportunity to get some guidance and actually get it done. The workshop is open to businesses in any industry, and there are three separate four-week sessions to make it easier for business owners to participate. Sessions begin in November, December and January, so you can choose the series that works best with your schedule.
Classes will be held at the Roswell Park Research Studies Center, Gaylord Cary Conference Room, 610 Elm Street in Buffalo. Classes run from 5:30–7:30 PM.
To qualify for NYS MWBE certification, businesses must meet certain requirements, including being at least 51% owned by a qualifying woman or minority owner, being independently owned and operated, and meeting additional New York State eligibility guidelines.
As an entrepreneur myself, I’m always going to share opportunities that can help other business owners gain access to information, resources and potentially bigger opportunities. Sometimes the next level starts with knowing what’s available to you, and then taking the steps to position yourself for it.
If MWBE certification has been sitting on your business to-do list, this may be your sign to get it DONE.
