Halloween Havoc Brings Buffalo’s Best Beatmakers to Revolver Records

If you know anything about Buffalo's hip-hop scene, you know there's no shortage of talent in this city. From the artists behind the microphone to the producers creating the sounds we love, Buffalo has always had something special brewing.

And this weekend, the producers are taking center stage.

Grand Phee, the visionary behind the Backpack Mafia Beat Battle, is closing out Season 7 with Halloween Havoc, happening Saturday, October 10, at 8 PM at Revolver Records, 810 Elmwood Avenue.

Revolver Records has become one of the city's exciting spaces for live music and creative expression, making it the perfect home for this season finale.

Backpack Mafia: Grand Phee

For those unfamiliar, Backpack Mafia isn't your typical music competition. Since 2019, the platform has given producers and beatmakers an opportunity to showcase their creativity, connect with other artists and compete in front of a crowd that knows good music.

And here's what makes it special: the audience gets involved!

Producers have 90 seconds to showcase their arrangements through challenges like Beat vs. Beat and sample battles. The crowd's reaction helps determine who walks away with bragging rights.

It's competitive, it's creative, and it's rooted in the culture. This weekend's lineup is bringing some serious talent. Optimus Prime returns to the battle stage for the first time since 2024, joining newcomers Glen Cove and Mike Excell. We're also getting a head-to-head matchup between Earth Knows and Nubie, while JB, aka Dirty Moses, is making time during his tour to compete.

Grand Phee and Cashis Green will host the evening, with DJ Sike keeping the music moving and a special performance from Drum Work Music artist Goosebytheway.

What I appreciate about events like this is that they're creating opportunities for our local talent to be seen, heard and celebrated. Buffalo has the talent. We just have to continue showing up for it.

Tickets are available at Secret Garden, 1363 Delaware Avenue, a dispensary that has supported the event for nearly three years. Admission will also be available at the door.
