Local Volunteer Fire Departments in New York Need Your Help
Many communities in Western New York depend on regular everyday citizens for their fire protection.
WKBW-TV is reporting about a new campaign that some local volunteer fire departments are doing to increase their recruiting efforts.
RecruitNY was started 10 years ago to help the public become more aware of the important role that volunteer fire companies play in keeping our homes safe and allow the public the opportunity to join a local volunteer fire department.
Hundreds of volunteer fire departments across New York will be participating in RecruitNY. We invite all New Yorkers to attend an open house and safely experience what it means to be a volunteer firefighter... After the year we have been through, RecruitNY weekend can provide people with the opportunity to interact with the responders who are dedicated to protecting them.
-John Farrell, President of the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY)
Many volunteer fire companies were already seeing a reduction in members and COVID-19 has exasperated the need to add new firefighters. Coronavirus restrictions around the state have closed many firehouses to the public and the new virtual options offered by RecruitNY will give another option for people to find out more info about joining a local volunteer fire department.
Many local departments are currently recruiting new members, they include:
- Pine Hill Hose #5
- Kenilworth Fire Company
- East Amherst Fire Department
- Seneca Hose Fire Company #1
- Sheridan Park Fire Company
- Harris Hill Volunteer Fire Company
- North Bailey Dire Company
You can find a full list here on the RecruitNY website. You can also contact your local volunteer fire department for more information.
