Hip-Hop Royalty in the 716 — ADRI.V Catches Up with MC Lyte
Buffalo, today we’re in the presence of greatness.
One of hip-hop’s most respected voices, the legendary MC Lyte, is touching down in the city today, May 3rd—and if you know, you know… this is big.
We’re talking about a true pioneer.
Before the industry started putting real respect on female MCs, Lyte was kicking down doors. In 1988, she dropped Lyte as a Rock, becoming the first solo female rapper to release a full-length album. She didn’t just make music—she made history. From that moment on, she’s been a force: lyrically sharp, culturally aware, and always moving with purpose.

Now in 2025, she’s still giving us bars—but she’s also giving us range.
Lyte has expanded her voice into acting (seen her on S.W.A.T. or Queen of the South?), voiceover work, entrepreneurship, and philanthropy through her nonprofit, Hip Hop Sisters Foundation, which empowers women and awards scholarships to HBCU students.
But today, the mic is back in her hands, and she’s blessing us with something fresh.
Her latest project, 1 of 1, is a soulful, grown, and still-gritty reminder of why Lyte remains in a league of her own. Executive produced by Warryn Campbell, the album blends that classic hip-hop feel with modern polish.
It features collabs with Stevie Wonder, Queen Latifah, and Ghostface Killah—and trust me, it delivers.
Stream it now on TIDAL: MC Lyte – 1 of 1
Lyte’s stopping through Buffalo as guest on the Throwback experience —and if you’ve never seen her live, this is your chance to witness hip-hop royalty up close. It’s more than just a show—it’s a masterclass, a vibe, and a celebration of longevity, impact, and growth.
This is for the real hip-hop heads, the grown folks who still value bars, and the young Go Gettas who need to know the blueprint.
MC Lyte isn’t just a rapper. She’s a storyteller, a businesswoman, a mentor, and a movement.
Today, she’s in our city. So Buffalo—let’s show up, show out, and salute a woman who helped shape the culture and continues to evolve with it.
