This year's concert season in Western New York has been something special. Building off the energy from 2023, 2024 has been going very well, with several great shows coming through town.

Fans of all genres and flavors have something special for them, and looking at the calendar for the rest of the year, things do not appear to be slowing down.

If you're a fan of New York hip hop, especially some of those classic East Coast mixtapes, you likely found yourself at Buffalo Riverworks on a warm Thursday evening in August to catch three of the biggest names in East Coast rap hit the stage.

French Montana is touring North America with his Gotta See It To Believe It Tour, which is set to hit seven cities during its first leg. The tour made its third stop in Buffalo on Thursday, August 8, 2024. Montana, who has a historic mixtape catalog, has teamed up with Fivio Foreign and Fabolous for these shows, and fans in Buffalo were in for a treat.

The show kicked off with yours truly, DJ Ed-Nice, serving as opening DJ for the long line of fans who piled into Buffalo Riverworks. The first act, Buffalo-based rap collective 14 Mafia, hit the stage around 7 p.m. 14 Mafia, who was the winner of WBLK's Perform With French Contest, rocked the crowd and had them going back and forth in the groove.

DJ Spin and OJ Barker were up next. Spin, known around the 716 as Da Klub Killa, took the energy to another level as OJ ensured the crowd was engaged. OJ and Spin kept the crowd going until the next performer, Dini from Joint Venture Music, hit the stage. After a short set, Buffalo's own Jrey Cash, performed his Buffalo hood classic track, Chips.

After another quick DJ set by Spin, Fivio Foreign hit the stage. The nearly sold-out Buffalo crowd went nuts as Fivio went right into several of his viral hits. The crowd fully enjoyed hearing tracks like City of Gods, What's My Name, and Big Drip.

French Montana hit the stage next in a move that surprised some fans. Accompanied by a live band and his personal DJ, DJ Duffey, French quickly showed his love for Buffalo and Western New York. During a live interview on WBLK leading up to the concert, French talked about how Buffalo was very important to his career when he was coming up and wanted to make sure that Western New York was on the list of cities he was bringing his tour to.

French didn't waste any time getting into the catalog of underground and mixtape cuts that fans thoroughly enjoyed. After nearly 30 minutes of blowing the crowd up, Fabolous hopped on stage and took over.

Fab, who also has a very deep listing of mixtapes, whipped the crowd into a frenzy as he went through classic tracks with help from DJ Boof. Hit from the Soul Tape mixtape series and Summertime Shootouts had the crowd turned up.

In another move that surprised fans, French Montana retook the stage after a few minutes and closed the show on a high note. If you are a fan of any of these artists and you didn't find yourself at Riverworks, you truly missed something special.
