As a parent, I know there's a time when teenagers and young adults are ready to separate from the family and find their own way. In fact, it happens several times, from their first cell phone to their first car, and first apartment.

Some teens and young adults want to strike out on their own when it comes to health care, too. If they are ready to move on from the pediatrician and the family doctor, I suggest the Community Health Center of Buffalo, Inc. (CHCB), which offers full-service health care from mental health to dental care.

That includes family planning services, which go far beyond contraception:

  • Birth control options, including implants and IUDs available onsite
  • Pregnancy testing and counseling
  • STI testing/treatment and counseling, including rapid STI testing for cisgender women
  • Treatment for vaginal infections
  • Breast and cervical cancer screenings
  • Teen-friendly services
  • Screenings for depression, alcohol/tobacco use, and domestic violence

One of the best parts of getting your medical care and services at the CHCB is that the staff are just like you and me. They're from our community and are dedicated to making sure that everyone in Buffalo and Western New York gets the care and support we need.

Being a mom or dad is a big job, and the CHCB has all the resources to make sure you can do it successfully. They know reproductive services can be uncomfortable for some patients, so they take pride in offering a safe, judgment-free space that honors all cultures and backgrounds.

Another great thing about the CHCB is how convenient it is to get to, with tons of parking right on site. The Buffalo location is really close to the Amherst Street and LaSalle subway stations, and they also have locations in Niagara Falls, Cheektowaga, and Lockport, too.

For those who can’t afford care, you may qualify for the Family Planning Benefits Program (FPBP). It is a free, confidential program that provides Medicaid coverage of Family Planning services for men and women of child-bearing years.

Call to schedule your appointment today at 716-986-9199. Walk-ins welcome, too! Clinic hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. You can find answers to frequent family planning and contraception questions online here.
