There was a groundbreaking for the African American Veterans Monument at the Naval and Military Park downtown Buffalo today. The monument has been in the works for years and a $1 million has been raised for the project. The monument will include 12 pillars that represent all the armed conflicts in US history that African Americans have fought in. Those pillars will be spaced apart in a representation of years of peace between the wars.

Rev. Eugene Pierce who is a veteran said, "I'm so proud of this project and the thought that people will come from all over the world to review the history of not only the American fighting man, but the American Black fighting man, and fighting woman," Pierce said.Construction will begin in the spring.  You can purchase a brick to have a veterans names place on the memorial walkway for $250
