If you’ve ever needed a reminder that community is still alive and well in Buffalo, just stop by the Resource Council of WNY.

Located at 347 East Ferry Street, this space continues to be a place where people can show up, be supported, and get what they need, no questions asked, no judgment, just real care.

This week, they’re offering two opportunities that speak directly to everyday needs in our community.

On Monday, April 6th at 11 AM, Care to Give Monday returns. Through a partnership with Trader Joe’s, the Resource Council will be distributing a variety of fresh, high-quality food items to the community. We’re talking fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses, salad kits, breads, and baked goods items that are perfectly good and ready to be shared with families who need them.

What I love about this initiative is that it’s consistent, but never the same. Every week brings something different, and every week, people line up knowing they’ll leave with something to help them get through. It’s first come, first served, and it runs while supplies last, so getting there early is always a good idea.

Then on Wednesday, April 8th from 3 PM to 7 PM, they’re offering free haircuts and basic braid styles. And if you know, you know, this is bigger than just hair. A fresh cut or a clean style can change how you feel walking into a room. It builds confidence, especially for our young people and families who may not always have access to these services.

What stands out most about the Resource Council is that these aren’t just one-off events. This is part of a larger commitment to the community. From youth programming to family support, health resources, and basic needs assistance, they’ve created a space that truly meets people where they are.

So whether you need groceries, a haircut, or just a place that feels like someone cares—this is your reminder to tap in with a place and team that would love to support you!

Pull up. Share it with someone. And don’t ever think you have to figure it all out alone.
