Mini Winter Heatwave Heading To Western New York
The winter weather season in Buffalo and Western New York has been one for the ages. While the last couple of winters have seen the region receive lots of snow, this year will likely go down as one of the coldest winters we've had in a long time.
Just take a look at some of the stats that we've put up so far this year:
- It's snowed 51 out of 52 days so far this year,
- February 2025 is likely to go down as the coldest ever,
- Lake Erie is nearly 100% frozen, the first time that's happened in a while, and
- The Lake Erie Ice Boom broke.
As members of the Millennial Generation say, winter has been wintering. Still, it looks like we might be getting a reprieve over the next few days as temperatures are expected to increase above freezing for the first time in weeks. In fact, in Buffalo, this might be considered a mini heatwave.
Spring-Like Temps Are Heading To Buffalo
Even though wind speeds will be picking up, the Buffalo region is expected to reach well into the 40s this week as warmer weather moves into the area.
According to WIVB-TV, the high temperature will be around 45 degrees on Monday, February 24, 2025, with the remainder of the week being comparable.
The National Weather Service agrees with this forecast, with them predicting that some regions farther away from Lake Erie and Lake Ontario will get near 50 degrees.
While you may be tempted to put on some shorts and drop the top around 7 o'clock, don't get used to this warmer weather. Winter is still here in Buffalo, and temps are expected to get back to more of what we've seen later in the week.
