The four soda products were sold in five-gallon forms. Pink Lemonade, Cola Flavoring Base, Yellow Lemonade, and Yellow Lemonade X are all produced by the Charles Boggini Company. The recall includes 28 gallons of the pink lemonade, 2,723 gallons of the cola flavoring base, and 112 gallons each of the yellow lemonade and yellow lemonade X. The pink lemonade and cola base products were given a Class II health hazards classification, while the Yellow Lemonade and Yellow Lemonade X received a Class III health hazard from the Food and Drug Administration. According to Newsweek,
"Class II is granted when 'use of, or exposure to, a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote', while Class III is given when 'use of, or exposure to, a violative product is not likely to cause adverse health consequences.'

The soda products contain undeclared food dyes. The Pink Lemonade product contains undeclared FD&C Red No. 40, the Cola Flavoring Base contains undeclared sulfites, and the Yellow Lemonade and Yellow Lemonade X contain undeclared FD&C Yellow No. 5.
FD&C Red 40, also known as E129, is a red dye linked to allergies, migraines, and mental disorders. Sulfites are salts that must be declared in food products at a level over 10 ppm. Sulfites can cause skin reactions, digestive problems, or respiratory issues in some people. FD&C Yellow No. 5, also known as tartrazine or E102, could potentially cause allergic reactions in people suffering from asthma or people with an aspirin intolerance.
