Buffalo Job Fair Opens Doors for Justice Impacted Job Seekers
Everybody deserves an opportunity to start again.
Here in Buffalo, Peaceprints of WNY and Dion’s Dreamers are coming together to create an opportunity for justice impacted individuals who are ready to take the next step toward employment, stability and a fresh start.
On Tuesday, October 6, the organizations will host Shnowcase Your Future: Not Your Average Job Fair at Allen Hall at the University at Buffalo. The event is designed specifically for individuals who have been impacted by the criminal justice system and are looking for more than just a job opening. They are looking for an opportunity to move forward.
And this really is not your average job fair. Participants will have access to resources designed to help them show up prepared and confident. That includes professional attire, haircuts and grooming, professional headshots, résumé development, mock interview coaching and, most importantly, opportunities to connect directly with employers.

Because sometimes getting the opportunity is only part of the equation. You also need the tools and preparation to walk through the door when it opens.
For Buffalo Bills offensive lineman Dion Dawkins, the mission behind the event is personal. Dawkins has spoken about making a mistake in his own life and having the opportunity to correct his path because employment and opportunity were available to him. Through Dion’s Dreamers, he is helping extend that opportunity to others.
I think that message matters. We talk a lot about second chances, but a second chance has to come with access. People need employers willing to see beyond their past. They need resources. They need preparation. And sometimes, they simply need someone willing to say, “Your story is not over.”
That is what makes this event bigger than a traditional job fair. It is about helping people rebuild confidence, create stability and see possibilities for their future. It is also a reminder that one decision, one mistake or one chapter of your life does not have to become your entire story.
Shnowcase Your Future: Not Your Average Job Fair takes place Tuesday, October 6, from 9 AM to 3 PM at Allen Hall at the University at Buffalo. For additional information and registration, contact Joslyn Briggins at 716 994 6321.
That is your Town Rundown for today.
