Buffalo Urban League Young Professionals invites residents to take part in an important conversation about voting, leadership, and the future of Buffalo during its October General Body Meeting on Thursday, October 15, 2026.

With Election Day approaching, conversations about the issues affecting our neighborhoods, families, and communities are more important than ever. From education and healthcare to housing and civic engagement, the decisions made by elected officials and community leaders have a direct impact on everyday life.

The Buffalo Urban League Young Professionals (BULYP) is creating space for those conversations with its upcoming General Body Meeting, themed "Your Voice, Your Vote, Your Future."

The event will take place at the Northland Workforce Training Center, located at 683 Northland Avenue in Buffalo. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with the meeting beginning at 6 p.m.

The evening will feature a panel of local leaders who bring different perspectives and experiences to the discussion.

Featured panelists include:

  • Lawrence Dupre, Erie County Legislator
  • Stephon Wright, Buffalo Board of Education Member representing the Ferry District
  • Malika D. Lee, City of Buffalo External Affairs Director
  • Jasmine Westbrook, Buffalo Urban League Young Professionals Vice President and Healthcare Advocate

Together, these leaders will explore the importance of civic participation, community advocacy, and the responsibility residents have in helping shape the policies and priorities that influence Buffalo's future.

For young professionals, the conversation is especially timely. Leadership does not begin with holding public office or having a particular job title. It begins with understanding the issues, asking questions, building relationships, and recognizing the power of individual and collective action.

Whether it's advocating for stronger schools, addressing healthcare disparities, expanding housing opportunities, or encouraging voter participation, meaningful change requires informed and engaged community members.

The discussion also serves as a reminder that civic engagement extends beyond Election Day. Staying connected to local government, attending public meetings, and holding decision-makers accountable are all important parts of building stronger communities.

While hosted by the Buffalo Urban League Young Professionals, the meeting is open to all community members, creating an opportunity for residents of different generations and backgrounds to exchange ideas and hear directly from local leaders.

Light refreshments will be served. As Buffalo continues to navigate challenges and opportunities, events like this encourage residents to become active participants in the conversations shaping their city.

Your voice matters. Your vote matters. And your involvement can help shape Buffalo's future.

And that is your Town Rundown
