The Queens of R&B Bring Sexy and Soul To Buffalo
To say that 2024 has been a pretty good year on the entertainment front would be an understatement. Starting right at the beginning of the year, we have multiple shows, events, and concerts that would be ranked among the best we've ever had in the 716.
Just about every type of entertainer in every genre has come through town. From comedians to world-class rappers and singers, there seems to have been something great to do just about every day this year.

One example is a concert that has been touring North America and it made a stop in Western New York on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, and featured some of the most talented female voices in R&B music.
The Queens of R&B Rocked The House At Darien Lake
If you're a fan of R&B music, then you know the place to be was Darien Lake Amphitheater on August 6th as the Queens of R&B came to town and brought a whole lot of sexy and soulful music to the 716 and 585.
Co-headlined by two powerhouses R&B groups, Xscape & SWV, the Queens of R&B North American tour was announced in April 2024 and would crisscross the continent and bring some of your favorite R&B tracks from the 90s and early 2000s to town.
Even though it was pouring down rain for most of the day on August 6th, that did not slow down the show one bit.
The show started just after 7 pm with DJ AOne, an experienced tour DJ who has spent many years curating sound for celebrities. AOne began warming the crowd up and preparing them for the show.
Right before the opening acts performed, Kandi Burruss came on stage to welcome the crowd to the concert and introduce a group she had been working with.
That group, PsiRyn, consisted of three very talented young ladies who sang and danced and held the crowd's attention quite well. Following quickly was the OMG Girlz, a girl group made up of the children of other members of the Queens of R&B. If you've followed pop culture, then you already know of the OMG Girlz as they have grown up right in front of us on television.
DJ AOne took over again to keep the crowd's energy up before he introduced 702.
702, the Las Vegas-based singing Soul Train Award-winning quartet, hit the stage and quickly entered some of their hits. The crowd in Darien Lake sang enthusiastically as they went from hit to hit. Group members Meelah Williams & LeMisha Grinstead sang hits Steelo, No Doubt, Get It Together, Where My Girls At?, and more before taking a moment to honor former group member Orish Grinstead, who passed away in 2008.
Rochester-born DJ Suga Shay took the stage next. As the official DJ for Total, Shay got the crowd going with some classic Bad Boy hits, along with other tracks, before Kima Raynor & Keisha Spivey came out and had the group going back and forth. Thousands of folks inside the amphitheater sang along to hits like Can't You See, No One Else, Kissin' You, What About Us?, Trippin', and more.
The Washington, D.C.-born mezzo-soprano Mya Marie Harrison was up next and mesmerized the crowd as she dug deep into her catalog of hits to tee things for the co-headliners. The entire venue, myself included, sang along for almost her entire set as she sang some of her most popular tracks like It's All About Me, Movin' On, Free, Take Me There, Fallen, and more.
The concert co-headliners hit the stage next in grand fashion. Utilizing a multi-level stage, Xscape and SWV took to the stage together and went back and forth in a round-robin style, with each group singing a song and artfully switching back and forth to the other.
Collectively, SWV and Xscape have a very deep repertoire of R&B music, and they took care to touch on just about all of them, in addition to interpolating other popular R&B songs into their performance.
