En Vogue, TLC, And Salt-N-Pepa Take The Stage Together

On Monday, I had the chance to see the IT’S ICONIC Tour with En Vogue, TLC, Salt-N-Pepa and DJ Spinderella, and the name truly fit the night.

There really wasn’t a headliner. It felt more like icons jointly sharing the time and stage while taking us through decades of music. En Vogue opened the show, and let me tell you the mics were ON! Those harmonies still sound GOOD. From “My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It)” to “Free Your Mind,” they gave us those classic vocals we know and love.

And can we talk about how amazing they looked?

One thing I love about being a Black woman is seeing other Black women look good, feel good and age gracefully. The outfits were classy, the presence was polished, and En Vogue gave exactly what En Vogue has always represented.

Next came TLC, but unfortunately, only the “C” was present.

Chilli let us know T-Boz was recovering after experiencing a sickle cell crisis and asked everyone to send prayers her way. And while Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes is no longer physically here, her energy and legacy are always felt when TLC’s music plays.

Chilli had to hold that entire stage down, and she DID!

She ran through classics including “Ain’t 2 Proud 2 Beg,” “Creep,” “Red Light Special,” “Unpretty,” “No Scrubs” and closed with “Waterfalls.” Her energy stayed high, she was dancing like it was back in the day, and she looked GOOD doing it.

Then it was time for Salt-N-Pepa and DJ Spinderella.

When I heard, “My Mic Sounds Nice, Check One!” I knew what time it was!

The ladies reminded us exactly how they helped pave the way for women in hip-hop. We got “Shoop,” “Whatta Man,” “Let’s Talk About Sex,” “Push It” and more before they took us to church with “Stomp.”

And DJ Spinderella? She Flexed!

Her DJ set touched everything from hip-hop and R&B to reggae, rock and even country while showing love to Dolly Parton. As a DJ in my head, I was impressed! But my favorite part was looking around the crowd and seeing so many women smiling, dancing and singing every word. It was pure joy.

That’s what timeless music does. You don’t just hear a song, you remember where you were, who you were and how it made you feel.

And this night reminded me why these women will forever be icons.

En Vogue, TLC, Salt-N-Pepa and DJ Spinderella brought the classics, energy and pure Black girl joy for a night that proved timeless music never gets old.
