One of the richest women in the world has gifted a large amount of money to a few different charities and non-profit organizations in the Buffalo area.

The renowned author and billionaire philanthropist MacKenzie Scott has been making news lately with the large number of financial gifts that she has been making to organizations all over the country. According to a report by Forbes Magazine, Scott has donated more than $12 billion to charities over the last two years.

Scott, who Forbes also ranks as the 3rd richest woman in the world, does these donations quietly. She doesn't make any public appearances about these and the announcements that are made by her happen in a semi-yearly report on her blog.

Her generosity seemly has no bounds and it has recently touched Buffalo in a major way over the last few days.

The Buffalo Urban League announced in a press conference on Monday, October 31, 2022, that Scott made an unsolicited donation of $6 million to the organization and the funds are unrestricted, allowing the organization to the dollars however they deem necessary to improve the quality of life for residents in Buffalo.

The Buffalo Urban league is here and we've been fighting for this community for many years, us like many other organizations have had to punch above our weight class just to serve this community. This helps level the playing field substantially. We are grateful to Ms. Scott, this gift will make an immense difference in the lives of the people were serve and we're honored and grateful that Ms. Scott and her team have recognized the Buffalo urban league, our values, and our impact on the community.

In addition to the $6 million donated to the Buffalo Urban League, Scott has also donated $9 million to the Health Foundation of Western and Central New York, $8 million to the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo, $1 million to the YMCA of Syracuse, $10 million to the Goodwill of the Finger Lakes, and more to others.
