10 Year Anniversary Of Big Event Being Celebrated In Niagara Falls

All eyes were on Niagara Falls 10 years ago to watch something that hadn't ever been done before.  Now they're planning a celebration to remember it.

Nik Wallenda walked across the Niagara Falls gorge on a tight rope 10 years ago.  Can you even believe it's already been that long?

It was an incredible stunt that had never been done before.  He had to fight the mist and the wind to make it across and if you've ever taken a trip on the "Maid of the Mist" you know how incredible that is.  It gets ridiculously wet around those falls which means that not only was he soaked, but so was the wire, his shoes, and everything he touched.

I remember he was trying to avoid having to be tethered to the rope but regulations would have made it impossible to do the walk without it.  Dragging that tether would have been another obstacle that would make it even more difficult.

It didn't hold him back though.  In front of thousands in attendance and even more watching on TV around the world, he was able to complete his walk from side to side without any problem.

Now, the city of Niagara Falls and Niagara Parks are teaming up to commemorate the event.  There will be a special event on the east side of Table Rock Centre at the brink of the Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side of the falls on June 15th at 1pm.

Nik Wallenda will be on hand with some remarks about the original event.

There will also be speeches from local dignitaries and an unveiling of a new limited-time exhibit created by Ripley Entertainment, installed at the brink of the Horseshoe Falls.
