If you have been paying attention to the news lately, then you know big things are happening on the political front in North America. We're just weeks away from America inaugurating the 45th President of the United States, along with a new batch of men and women being elected to Congress.

Now, there is big news from our neighbor to the north as it seems, Justin Trudeau, the 23rd prime minister of Canada, who has been in office since 2015, is on his way out of office. A position he has held since 2015.

Trudeau assumed the office of Prime Minister on November 4, 2015, under Queen Elizabeth II and has held this position through several serious issues that have gripped the continent. Earlier on the morning of Monday, January 6, 2025, Trudeau notified the Governor General of Canada that a new government has to be formed and that he will be stepping away from his role as Canada's Prime Minister once Canada's Liberal Party selects a new leader.

That decision has made waves all over Canada as things are set to change for the nation of roughly 41 million people.

Now, as Canada begins to figure out its future while searching for a new leader, this presents a unique opportunity for the residents of Western New York.

How, you may ask? With the Canadian government in potential turmoil, a strong government in New York State, and a new administration going into the Presidency, now is the perfect time for the Empire State to live out the potential of its name and annex Southern Ontario.

Essentially, New York State can take possession of every east of King's Highway 6 in Southern Ontario and make this region the New New Western New York. This would actually be a win-win for both New York and Ontario, as the acquisition would give us both sides of Niagara Falls, Crystal Beach, the oil refineries in Hamilton, and, of course, the Welland Canal, and it would relieve Toronto of the area that it doesn't really claim anyway.

Now, I understand, we tried this 2012 years ago and things didn't work out so well, but if at first you don't succeed, dust yourself off and try again.

So, to our Ontarian brothers and sisters in the West, what do you think? Are you ready to become a Western New Yorker?
