The Buffalo Bills are coming off a dominating performance in their second preseason game, defeating the Denver Broncos by a score of 42-15.

The game only featured starting quarterback Josh Allen in for one series, which featured a touchdown drive. The defensive starters played for a few series, while the Bills backups controlled the Broncos backups.

The Bills must cut the roster down from 84 players to 80 players by Tuesday afternoon and on Monday, wasted no time by releasing two veterans.

The Bills have announced they have released punter Matt Haack and wide receiver Tavon Austin.

Haack was signed as the team’s punter in 2021 after the Bills elected not to re-sign Cory Boroquez. After a disappointing season the Bills drafted San Diego State punter Matt Araiza, who had the strongest leg in the draft and was nicknamed “Punt God.”

Araiza proved he could hold for Tyler Bass’ field goals, which made Haack expendable.

As for Austin, he was in tough to make the roster. He has value as a punt returner but rookie wide receiver Khalil Shakir has been returning punts, while Isaiah McKenzie can also return punts.

He was clearly behind Jake Kumerow and Isaiah Hodgins for a WR position as well.

The Bills cutting Haack and Austin now allows them more time to try and catch on somewhere else. The team has to release two more players to get down to 80 before Tuesday afternoon’s deadline, so we will see who else gets released.

Don’t be surprised if running back Duke Johnson is one of those players.
