Buffalo Gas Station & Store Closed By Protests Is Back Open Again
The summer of 2025 saw a lot of activity, not only in the United States of America, but right here in Buffalo and Western New York. Not only dis we seen significant policy and position changes in the state and federal governments, we also saw quite a bit of activity happening in the 716.
Towards the end of summer on Buffalo's east side, the alleged beating of a woman in a gas station convenience store led to large chunks of the community rising up in protest to that incident. The attack, which was caught on video by a bystander and posted to social media, happened on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, and after several days of protest, led to the store being shut down by city of Buffalo officials.
The store was shut down, not because of the incident or subsequent protest, but because the store was operating illegally and without several licenses.
Buffalo Gas Station & Store Closed By Protests Is Back Open Again
After more than two months of being shut down, it seems the owner of the gas station and convenience store was able to resolve their license issues, and the store is now back open for business.
According to Senior Reporter Taylor Epps from WKBW-TV, who visited the location this week, the store is now legally allowed to reopen after rectifying thier license concerns with the city of Buffalo.
As it relates to their license and the violations they had with the city, that has been rectified, legally, there's no reason they cannot be open... From what I understand, the owner, she's hired new individuals, they have a new management team, they've trained people... They have to build a better relationship with our communities.
-Leah Halton-Pope, City of Buffalo Common Councilmember for the Ellicott District
While the store is back open, they have several conditions they have to follow in order to remain open.
In addition to having to close every day by 10 pm, the store cannot serve food after a certain time of the day; the store must have on-site security and maintain security cameras.
