Local Buffalo Parish Will Be Closing After 165 Years
It's sad when a parish closes due to financial circumstances but that's what will happen to Holy Angels on Porter Avenue in Buffalo.
According to WIVB, Holy Angels will be closing by July of 2020 due to money issues. The parish has been on Porter Avenue for more than 165 years.
The church, convent, and rectory need "major restructural repair," which is too expensive to fix, according to the owners.
“We’re a family. We’ve been so small that it doesn’t matter what language you speak, it doesn’t matter what you look like, it doesn’t matter what language you speak, it doesn’t matter what country you come from, it doesn’t matter your age. We are a family, so it’s heartbreaking because our family is losing its home,” said Michele DiVito, who volunteers.
