Popular Apple Orchard Closing For Good In Western New York
Apple picking is huge in New York State. We look forward to it every year. But it looks like last season may have been the last for this farm in North Collins.
Like many other families in Western New York, we started to go to Stonehill Orchard when our kids were little. They had smaller trees so the kids were able to fully participate and help us fill our bags. Their apples were so good and there were so many of them that sometimes we would plan for a full day to pick and it would only take us a couple minutes to find a full bushel of incredible apples.
It's sad for us to see that after 36 years, they're deciding to call it quits and retire. They made the announcement on Facebook.
They were the perfect place to go apple picking with the family in the fall. They had wagons to pull your bushels around with and just about every single variety of apple you could ever hope for.
This is without a doubt one of those very bittersweet announcements. They have brought so much happiness to people in the southtowns who didn't want to travel up to Niagara county to get some great apple picking in. So it's not good news for us...but for the owners, you can't help but to be happy for them. This is just one of those things where we wish we could get one more last season.
We will certainly miss them, but wish them the best of luck in their retirement.
