The Buffalo Sabres have been at the forefront of the news cycle in Buffalo over the past two weeks, with the 2022 NHL Draft and the start of unrestricted free agency.

General manager, Kevyn Adams was busy with re-signing players, such as forwards Victor Olofsson and Vinnie Hinostroza and defenseman Jacob Bryson, along with signing veteran free agents such as defenseman Ilya Lyubushkin and goaltender Eric Comrie.

But there was another defenseman that has been reportedly interested in coming back to Buffalo to play for the Sabres after leaving the team in 2020. That finally became a reality on Friday afternoon.

Former Sabres defenseman Lawrence Pilut has signed a one-year contract with the Buffalo Sabres. It's a two-way deal.

Pilut was a hot commodity in the NHL back in 2018 after impressing in Sweden. He signed a two-year contract with the Sabres and split time between the Rochester Amerks and Buffalo.

Pilut had many solid games but after his contract was up, he wanted to leave Buffalo and signed a deal with the KHL in Russia.

Pilut was let go from his contract in the KHL recently and according to Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News, he had interest in returning to the Sabres.

Pilut wanted a one-way deal with the Sabres back in 2020, which was a catalyst for him going to the KHL. Now, the Sabres have a new coaching staff and general manager with a heightened emphasis on analytics, so there's hope Pilut's second stint with Buffalo goes better.

Pilut is only 26 years old and still has his whole career in front of him. Pilut's father was a professional hockey player, who was from the United States but played most of his career in Sweden, where Lawrence Pilut was born and raised.
