Everyone wants to manage their money better and save, so I'm embarking on a series of interviews with KeyBank about financial fitness. You can catch them on air between 10 am and 2 pm each Thursday or online HERE.

This week, I'm joined by Ethan Grant, branch manager of KeyBank's Chippewa location, to discuss how people's banking habits have changed during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the differences between digital and in-person banking.

You can listen to the full interview here:

This COVID-19 pandemic has changed many things, including the way people bank. KeyBank recently did a survey that looks at how people's banking habits are changing. What were some of the findings of that survey?

The survey polled more than 1200 Americans and their financial feelings after nearly a year of living through the pandemic. It found that 85% of Americans will use digital tools to conduct some or all financial transactions after the COVID-19 pandemic is over.

Did the survey find that the habit is more consistent among all age groups?

It found that Millennials and Gen-Zers, or those under the age of 35, prefer a combination of digital and in-person banking more often than older Americans, who would rather exclusively use digital banking tools. That's a surprising discovery for technology-forward younger generations.

That's interesting. What's the difference between in-person and digital banking?

Digital banking is where you use your smartphone, tablet, or computer to do your banking. You can check balances, pay bills, transfer money, and open new accounts at your convenience. It's free and easy to use, our security is state-of-the-art, and our 24/7 customer service is always available for whatever you may need.

In-person banking takes place in your branch. You can do things like we mentioned at one of our main branches in the Buffalo area and talk to one of our bankers about buying a home, saving for college, or even your wedding. You can also schedule a financial wellness review with one of our bankers, which shows you where your finances stand and informs you of how to reach your financial goals.
