Everyone wants to manage their money better and save, so I'm embarking on a series of interviews with KeyBank about financial fitness. You can catch them on air between 10 am and 2 pm each Thursday or online HERE.

In a recent interview with Ethan Grant, branch manager of KeyBank's Chippewa location, I asked what people can do if the COVID-19 pandemic is stressing them out financially. You can listen to the whole thing here:

I really like the straightforward, nuanced approach Ethan recommends when it comes to analyzing your money.

Take stock of your income and spending habits. If you have several utility payments due in a short span, set up a budget and prioritize how you want to spend and save. Focus on the basics of food, shelter, and utilities.

I also liked Ethan's tips for saving and making money during this time.

Look for ways to reduce spending. Ideas include meal-planning ahead of time, cooking at home, using everything in your cupboards and refrigerator and sticking to shopping lists. Also consider canceling subscriptions to services that you don't need or use often.

And what should you do if you happen to get sick and aren't able to work?

Be fully aware of any benefits you may be due. This includes paid work leave, sick leave, disability, or unemployment benefits.
