The National Football League is officially back, as week 1 is almost entirely in the books. The Sunday and Monday Night Football games still need to be played, but the Buffalo Bills opened their season all the way back on Thursday.

The Bills beat the Los Angeles Rams by a score of 31-10 and to be honest, the score should have been even more lopsided than that.

The Bills have come a long way since the 17-year playoff drought, and many 20-something Buffalonians grew up watching those teams.

That includes Jody Fortson, who was born and raised in Buffalo and went to South Park High School.

Fortson scored a touchdown on Sunday for the Kansas City Chiefs against the Arizona Cardinals in their blowout win.

It was a nifty pass by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, as Fortson ran to get open and caught the touchdown pass.

The 26-year-old also went to Erie Community College, where he played quarterback and wide receiver. He transferred to Valdosta State and made the switch to tight end.

He went undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft but has made an impression on one of the best teams in the NFL and was active for the Chiefs in their week 1 game on Sunday against the Cardinals.

It’s so cool that an ECC alum and Buffalo native is making a name for himself at the highest level of football.

Hopefully, Fortson can play most games for Kansas City this season and be active on game days.
