J. Cole Releases Moving Trailer for HBO Documentary ‘4 Your Eyez Only’ [WATCH]

Last year, J. Cole released 4 Your Eyez Only, a poignant album where he addressed a lot of socio-political issues plaguing black America including, poverty, police brutality and mass incarceration. The project now has accompanying documentary, which will air on HBO.

On Friday (March 24), Cole dropped the trailer to the film, J. Cole: 4 Your Eyez Only, A Dreamville Film, which captures moments in the rapper’s life during his travels to different ‘hoods in the South. In the film, Cole visits Baton Rouge, La., Ferguson, Mo., Atlanta, his own hometown of Fayetteville, N.C., and his father's hometown of Jonesboro, Ark., to talk with residents about the problems they face on a daily basis.

In the case of Baton Rouge and Ferguson, both communities have been devastated by the police killings of unarmed black men Alton Sterling and Mike Brown, respectively. The documentary will also feature J. Cole’s songs from 4 Your Eyez Only.

“So many of us are hurting and we’re confused and we’re angry,” says one of the people in the trailer, while another confesses, “I’m going to do it because I can’t depend on those people, I can’t depend on them.”

J. Cole and Scott Lazer co-directed the documentary, which is produced by Tim Grant and executive produced by Jermaine Cole, Ibrahim Hamad, and Adam Roy Rodney. Lazer directed the rapper's previous documentary, J. Cole Forest Hills Drive: Homecoming.

J. Cole: 4 Your Eyez Only, A Dreamville Film will premiere on April 15 at 10 p.m. ET on HBO.
