Today is the first day of Common Core Testing here in Western New York and a growing number of parents are opting out! On This Hot Topic Tuesday Buffalo Speaks out about the Pros and Cons of Standardized Testing. Check this out.

In West Seneca, nearly 70% of eligible students are not taking the standardized tests that the State of New York has implemented along with the Common Core curriculum. Many parents say that their child is not properly prepared for the exa and don't want to risk the chance of being stigmatized or help back because of poor test scores.

Others worry that the teachers spend too much time preparing for the test and are neglecting social studies and the arts that help children become unique, free, thinking individuals.

One parent who opted out last year, has changed her mind after learning that college prep and magnet schools use these test score when considering applicants.

This concerned citizen believes that the Common Core program can improve the Buffalo Education system by holding teacher's accountable.
