The Buffalo Sabres are hard at work compiling both their 2022 NHL Draft board, along with their list of free agent targets.

The NHL Draft is one week from tonight, as the first round will be held in Montreal at 7 pm next Thursday. Rounds 2-7 will take place on Friday.

Buffalo was active on Thursday, re-signing one of their own to a one-year contract.

The Sabres announced that they have re-signed goaltender, Craig Anderson to a one-year, $1.5 million contract.

Adams told WGR radio in Buffalo earlier this week they had talks with Anderson about coming back, but was respectful of what he decided. The 41-year-old goaltender had been contemplating coming back or perhaps retiring after a 20-year NHL career.

Anderson returning for another season might be indicative that the Sabres wish for Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen to be the main goaltender in Rochester and they would go out and sign or trade for another veteran goaltender.

Sabres gener manager Kevyn Adams gave a pretty telling clue that they would kick the tires on trading for a goaltender in the coming weeks; or at least attempt to.

Here's what Adams said at Thursday morning's press conference with the Buffalo media, according to WKBW's Matt Bove.

Adams did say the market was "rich" and that they may not be comfortable making that compromise -- paying the current market price for a goaltender.

I think Buffalo has to sign or trade for another goaltender. I rather not have Luukkonen start in Rochester for another season, but since they have decided to re-sign Anderson, I think he should be the backup and signing or trading for another goaltender is critical for next season.

The Sabres need better goaltending then what they got last year.
