DownRoot Fund Is Investing in Bold Ideas and Stronger Communities
Go Gettas, if you have a bold idea, you’re building something in the community, or you know somebody doing the work, this is something you need to put on your radar.
The DownRoot Fund application is officially OPEN, and the mission is simple: invest in bold ideas that can create lasting change in our communities.
Through Crossroads Coalition, DownRoot is focused on supporting projects, businesses, organizations, creatives and community-driven ideas that help build stronger communities and create opportunities for people who have historically been left out of traditional funding.

And yes, there is money available. There are four grant opportunities through the DownRoot Fund.
The Preserve Grant provides up to $10,000 to help existing businesses and nonprofits continue their work and stay rooted in their communities.
The Build Grant offers up to $25,000 for collaborative projects focused on shared ownership and building community wealth. This can include worker-owned cooperatives, community land trusts, housing and real estate cooperatives and other shared-ownership projects.
If you’re just getting started, the Startup Grant offers up to $10,000 to help new businesses led by people from historically disinvested communities get their ideas off the ground.
And my creatives, I didn’t forget about you!
The Create Grant offers up to $5,000 for individual artists and collaborative arts projects using culture and storytelling to uplift communities impacted by economic, racial and climate injustice.
Now here’s the part I need you to pay attention to: the application period is September 1 through September 30.
According to DownRoot, they are looking to invest in bold ideas and innovative solutions, build stronger communities and create opportunities, and support lasting change that continues to make an impact.
That means don’t wait until the last minute to figure out if your idea fits.
We talk all the time about wanting more resources, more investment and more opportunities in our communities. When those opportunities become available, we have to make sure the information gets to the people actually doing the work.
So send this to that entrepreneur. Share it with the nonprofit leader. Tag your favorite local creative. Forward it to the person who is always talking about that big idea they want to bring to life.
And if that person is you, stop sitting on the idea. The application is open now through September 30. Go Getta, go get the information, get that application together and GO GET IT!
