Storm Causes Doordash Suspends Services To Parts of Buffalo
The latest lake effect snowstorm that has hit Buffalo and Western New York has left parts of the region in shambles. From states of emergencies to school closures and travel bans to NFL teams canceling practices as feet of snow pile up, the good people of the 716 are doing their best to deal with what mother nature has dealt us over the last few days.
According to data from the National Weather Service, snow fell at a rate of 2/3 inches per hour and more lake effect snow is expected to fall throughout the night on Thursday, December 12, 2024. When factoring in the wind, some areas of Western New York saw whiteout conditions that made travel very difficult, if not impossible, in some spots.
Conditions got so bad that, in addition to the second weather-related State of Emergency issued in as many weeks, government officials have issued travel bans for several different parts of Western New York.

During a travel ban, all non-emergency travel is restricted, and people are requested to stay put. This ensures that lives aren't unnecessarily put at risk during dangerous weather conditions. That was the case in parts of Western New York, as it was nearly impossible to see on the roads.
As conditions worsened, it just made more sense for drivers to stay off the roads, and it seems that one major nationwide delivery service agrees with this effect, as DoorDash issued an alert to all of its drivers that deliveries in South Buffalo the Western New York south towns were being suspended.
With heavy snowfall and near-zero visibility, the lake-effect snow storm is a serious threat to our community, and we’re taking decisive action by activating our Severe Weather Protocol... We deeply appreciate the patience and understanding of Dashers, merchants and consumers, and will resume operations as soon as it’s safe to do so.
-Julian Crowley, Spokesperson for DoorDash
DoorDash officials have initiated their Severe Weather Protocol and shuttered operations all over the southern half of Western New York. Services will be suspended until at least noon on Friday, December 13, 2024, with the possibility of that service shutdown being expanded longer based on weather conditions.
It seems that services all over the 716 will continue to be impacted while the snow is flying high in the region.
