The Bills Should Try and Trade For Disgruntled Star Wide Receiver
The Buffalo Bills, along with the rest of the NFL, are preparing for the 2022 NFL Draft. The first round takes place next Thursday night, with rounds two and three happening Friday night, and rounds four through seven taking place on Saturday morning and afternoon.
The Bills have arguably the best roster in the NFL and they don't need really need any significant help at any one position.
The two positions fans and experts are pointing to is cornerback and wide receiver, which seem like the two most likely choices for the 25th overall pick.
However, could the Bills package that pick and others for a proven commodity in the NFL? Perhaps one wide receiver in San Francisco.
Star wide receiver Deebo Samuel is not attending the 49ers first offseason workouts of the spring and according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, he's one of three receivers who wants a new contract in the league: A.J. Brown (Titans) and Terry McLaurin (Commanders) being the other two.
Indications are Samuel wants out of San Francisco.
It's unclear what kind of offer the 49ers have made to Samuel, or if he simply has reached the point he does not want to be there anymore, despite an offer in the ballpark of what he and his agent want.
Samuel is a rare player. He led the league in yards per catch last season, had 77 catches and 60 rushing attempts. He is only 24 years old and I'm sure many teams have called the 49ers regarding him.
The Bills only have $8 million (roughly) in salary cap space for 2022, so someone would need to vacate the roster if they were serious in trading for Samuel.
The 25th overall pick would and should be part of the deal as well.
The Bills should be in on Samuel. His rare ability to be a WR and RB is why. He's an explosive difference maker in the offense. Much like Tyreek Hill was to the Chiefs. Stefon Diggs is an all-world route runner, catcher and deep threat, but Samuel's ability to get yards after the catch is why the Bills should at least make the call.
