Parents, staff, and community please join us for this year's 2017 Parent and Family Engagement Summit - Premium on Education: Growing Access, Quality, and Opportunity for all Children. The Summit will take place on Saturday, May 20, 2017 from 9 am - 3 pm at East Community High School, 820 Northampton St. DJ Wire will be on-site from 12:30 to 2:30 pm!

On the Agenda
Highly acclaimed distinguished educator Dr. Christopher Emdin returns to Buffalo as the Summit's featured speaker. Byron Brown, Mayor of the City of Buffalo, will be a guest speaker. Informative workshops and fun hands-on student activities are also planned.

Interpreters, delicious breakfast and lunch, as well as free transportation will be provided the morning of the event departing from the following nine Community Schools at 8:30 a.m: 37, 74, 80, 93, 94, Harvey Austin, Bennett, Lafayette, and South Park.

About the Engagement Summit:

Parents + Students + Academic System= Academic Success! The goal is to strengthen the bond all around so that students are put in the best position for success.

5 A’s of Excellence: 54 student nominees based on their achievements in the following areas
· Academic
· Attendance
· Arts
· Athletics
· Attitude

9 students will be highlighted at the event and celebrated on site.

12 free workshops will be held for families, each designed to increase engagement in the following areas:
· Embracing Support/ Leading Roles in Males of Color
· Reduce Academic Summer Slide- students lose positive momentum built through school year and fall back into negative habits over summer
· Technology
· Sports Officials and programs and opportunities involved
· LGBT acceptance
· Scholarships- what students can do to put themselves on the right track or how to take advantage of available opportunities
· Special Ed

Parents choose the areas they feel them and their children can benefit, and interact together to strengthen bond.

There will be free breakfast, lunch, transportation to East Community School departing at 8:30am from 9 different BPS locations - 37, 74, 80, 93, 94, Harvey Austin, Bennett, Lafayette, and South Park.
