As spring slowly shifts towards summer, the whole region is getting ready to enjoy the warm weather with fun and sun that comes to the Buffalo area this time of year. Not only are people getting ready to enjoy the next few months of amazing weather in the Buffalo region, but thousands of kids from North Buffalo to the Southside are also getting ready for summer vacation.

Now, while the kids are getting ready to get out of school, the leaders of New York State's second-largest school system are hard at work to make sure things are all set for the next school year, which is going to start in September. Part of those preparations comes with the passage of the 2026-27 Buffalo Public Schools budget.

The budget, which comes in at more than $1 billion, funds the system that educates the kids in Buffalo for the entire year, and it was passed by the Buffalo School Board at the end of May.

While Buffalo isn't the only district that has done major work in moving its finances forward for the next year, it's by far the largest amount of money this side of New York City.

The 2026-27 City of Buffalo budget will take effect on July 1, 2026. Overall, total spending from the city of Buffalo is proposed to be $1,804,990,507, and here are some of the biggest individual line items.
