Community: Common Council Needs You for its Advisory Body on Police-Community Relations

Last month, Niagara District Council Member David A. Rivera, chair of The Buffalo Common Council’s Police Oversight Committee, announced plans to create a advisory body made up of Buffalo residents to advise the Police Oversight Committee on community-police relations. This advisory body will make recommendations to the Council’s Police Oversight Committee that will assist Buffalo in strengthening its community-police relationship. The Police Oversight Committee is accepting applications for seats on its community advisory body until December 1.
The Police Oversight Committee is looking for applicants that bring expertise in policy, community relations, and that are representative of the residents of Buffalo. Applicants must be residents of The City of Buffalo. The advisory body will meet with general public and Buffalo Police Department officials. An ability to work with both the general public and police officers is required to ensure productive discussions and recommendations are achieved. The advisory body is expected to begin its work in early 2018.
