Sometimes, you need to take matters into your own hands and turn to the one thing that always leaves us feeling somewhat fulfilled, regardless of what we are going through.
Comfort food.
Food doesn’t solve everything, but it does help you feel better, even if the change is slight. On birthdays, you may get to choose your favorite restaurant to go with your family, and at a funeral, you may notice that food is provided for those grieving the loss.
From early on in life, we adapt to this way of using food to feel better. Nutrients in food releasing serotonin and dopamine, which help us in more ways than one. Serotonin is the chemical that helps to regulate your mood and feelings of distress, according to BBC, whereas dopamine “manages feelings of motivation, attention, and emotional reward.”
It makes sense why we turn to comfort food when we are looking for some kind of an emotional relief.
