U.S Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who was just recently in Buffalo, talked about plans to deal with child poverty and more money in the hands of Western New Yorkers, concentrating on low-income families and the working poor.

Help is here for upwards of 85% of working families in Western New York, who will receive a big and vital boost from the $1400.00 stimulus checks that are in the mail, plus the new and robust Child Tax Credit, will be a game-changing lifeline to countless Buffalo children that are trapped in poverty, something that is particularly bane here in Buffalo. Experts say that this policy alone can cut child poverty in half, which is a huge step forward and benefits all New Yorkers.

said, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.

The new benefit will help those families that are making less than $150,000, the credit phases down for families making more than $150,000 so they will see a reduced amount. There are an estimated 25,000 children living in the city of Buffalo that are living below the poverty line, according to Schumer. That is about 40 percent of children in Buffalo. Jamestown and Niagara Falls have close to the same problem.

The American Rescue Plan increases the Child Tax Credit from 2000.00 per child to 3000.00 per child ages 6 to 17 and ($3600 per child for children under the age of 6) for 2021. This is a great program to benefit our children in the city of Buffalo, I think with more money being pumped into the city it will keep growing our economy.
