Historic Baby & Teen Store To Be Demolished In North Buffalo
Over the last few years, Buffalo and Western New York have seen quite a bit of activity on the real estate front in the region. Not only has Buffalo been one of the hottest housing markets in the country, but somehow, it has done it while remaining one of the most affordable in America. That's not to say there haven't been some tremendous price increases related to the market and inflation, but compared to the rest of the nation, Buffalo is a pretty hot place to do real estate.
Part of that action has come from property development and redevelopment, and according to some paperwork filed with the City of Buffalo Planning Board, a once-historic retail shop in North Buffalo, along the Kenmore, New York border, is on the verge of a significant change.
The Wrecking Ball May Be Heading To The Former White's Baby and Teen on Kenmore Ave
A retail shop that once served generations of Buffalonians has been an empty shell for the last few years after White's Baby & Teen Furniture closed. White's, originally opened in 1939, was Buffalo's oldest specialty store specializing in furniture and accessories for young people in the region.
According to the Buffalo News, in 2018, the store was closing due to the retirement of the family that owned the outlet.
Over the last six years, the nearly 13,000-square-foot site in North Buffalo has sat vacant until it was sold earlier in 2024. Now, the new owners are looking to demolish parts of the building, which is, in fact, several different buildings connected together with facades.
According to Buffalo Business First, the demolition plan seeks to demolish two of the site's buildings and then spend more than $300,000 on redevelopment to make the site ready for tenants.
The new building owner, DRJ Development, expects the entire project to take approximately six months to complete.
