Frigid temperatures have a death grip on Buffalo and Western New York, with the region dealing with several back-to-back days with temps well below freezing and wind-chills dipping far below zero.

The last two weeks have been especially rough with Buffalo getting hit with a combination of lake effect snowstorms and arctic temperatures, which have created whiteout winter conditions and temps so low that officials warned that hypothermia and frostbite can set in quickly if you're not properly prepared.

It's been so bad that local school districts have needed to shut their doors on multiple occasions, and now, with the weather on Friday, January 30, 2026, looking even more dangerous, schools around the Buffalo area are changing their educational plans.
